The pre-trial investigation into the death of a resident of Balkhash, Meruert Aulbayeva, due to medical negligence has finally been completed. The relevant notice was signed last week. The main suspect has been formally charged.
This was reported by Meruert's brother, Aitbek Aulbayev, on his personal Instagram page. However, he did not specify who has been charged or what the charges are.
"Finally, the police have finished this marathon. It hasn't just been a difficult year; it has probably been one of the hardest periods of my life," said Aitbek Aulbayev.
To recall, in July 2023, Meruert Aulbayeva repeatedly contacted the Balkhash polyclinic with complaints about her health, but she was only seen several days later, and surgery to remove her appendix was performed only a week later, despite the fact that ultrasound results from her first visit had already revealed peritonitis.
Sepsis developed in Meruert's body, and she lived with it for three months. On 6 November 2023, the woman died.
The pre-trial investigation into her death in intensive care was initially conducted by the Balkhash city police department; however, according to Meruert's brother, the Balkhash police three times in July ordered the same unnecessary expert examination, in his opinion, thereby delaying the investigation.
It was only on 8 August 2024 that the criminal case was transferred to the Karaganda Regional Police Department, and the regional prosecutor's office promised to oversee the legality of the investigation.
Later, Meruert's brother said that during a meeting with the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Marat Kozhayev, the Deputy Head of the Karaganda Regional Police Department, Rashad Uteuov, guaranteed that the investigation would be completed by the end of September.
A similar promise was made by the Karaganda Regional Prosecutor, Bauyrzhan Myrzakerov, during a personal meeting with Aitbek Aulbayev.
However, the investigation was not completed within the promised timeframe.
Furthermore, Meruert's brother claimed that his relatives and friends were being subjected to pressure from the main suspect.
Now, a year after Meruert's death, the case of medical negligence will finally be sent to court.
The editorial board of FBRK expresses the hope that the trial will be concluded promptly and that the court's decision will be objective and fair.
In the meantime, our editorial board has sent an official request to the Karaganda Regional Police Department to find out who the main suspect in this case is and what specific charges have been brought against them.
