In the Akmola region, a local police officer from Shchuchinsk was assaulted by a family and their relative during patrol.
According to the Instagram page 'Nayza Kokshe', the officer stopped a UAZ vehicle, the driver of which had been deprived of his driving licence. After a brief conversation, a verbal altercation ensued.
'In response to the police officer's demands, he struck him in the face several times. During the struggle with the officer, the passenger, the driver's brother, got out and also attacked the police officer, delivering several blows to the face. The driver's wife was not left out. She provoked the conflict, insulted him, and finally spat in his face', the statement reads.
It is noted that the attackers fled the scene, but the driver was later detained. The police officer sought medical assistance and was prescribed treatment.
As reported by CMN.KZ, the press service of the Akmola region police department confirmed information about the incident. The department explained that a pre-trial investigation is being conducted regarding the use of violence against an officer.
'The identities of the offenders have been established; they are currently detained and under investigation. The police department warns that failure to comply with the lawful demands of police officers while they are performing their official duties carries administrative and criminal liability', the police reported.
The incident raises questions about the limits of authority of local police inspectors in the context of traffic control. Although they are not part of the road patrol service, legislation grants them certain rights to maintain public order, including the ability to stop vehicles when grounds exist.
