A dishonest contractor has been convicted of embezzling 2.1 billion tenge in Astana

The head of a construction company has been convicted of fraud involving state funds allocated for the completion of a problematic residential complex.

HOW THE CONFLICT DEVELOPED

According to the investigation, the construction company was involved in the delivery of a problematic residential complex in the capital. During an inspection, special prosecutors established that part of the state-allocated funds had been stolen. The amount of the theft totalled 2.1 billion tenge.

During the pre-trial investigation, 412 million tenge was returned to state ownership.

COURT DECISION

The head of the company was found guilty by the court of committing fraud on an especially large scale. He was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison, with a ban on holding managerial positions in commercial organisations involved in the construction of multi-apartment residential buildings for 10 years. The material damage has been recovered. 

The verdict has entered into legal force.
