Anti-corruption volunteers, together with representatives from the branches of «KazAvtoZhol» and the National Centre for the Quality of Road Assets, have inspected the quality of road construction in the country's regions.
«In the Karaganda region, the progress of construction of eight highways is being analysed, including the republican highway 'Border of the Russian Federation (Yekaterinburg) – Almaty', the 'Karaganda – Balkhash' and 'Balkhash – Burylbaital' sections up to the border with the Zhambyl region», the Anti-Corruption Service's press office reported.
During monitoring on the «Karaganda – Balkhash» highway section near the Shet District, the inspection team identified defects that had occurred during the road's reconstruction.
It is reported that the cause of these defects is the load from heavy goods vehicle traffic on the lower layer of the surface, as traffic is running on the incomplete 'road pavement' structure.

For reference: road pavement is a structure comprising several technological layers, used in the construction of highways, pedestrian zones, and other facilities. The main purpose of multi-layered road pavement is to redistribute and absorb the load on the surface, as well as to enhance the characteristics of the roadbed.
It has become known that Turkish subcontractors will be tasked with rectifying the shortcomings. The road has not been put into operation, and work is ongoing.
«The defects have been eliminated, and the test results meet the standards. It is planned to complete the top layer of the surface by 30 August 2024 and to ensure the road's furnishing by 30 November», the statement reads.
Recall that in May, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev criticised the state of roads in the country. He instructed the government and the Anti-Corruption Service to reduce corruption offences in their construction «to zero». At the same time, he stated that he had ordered the start of large-scale construction and repair of roads in Atyrau.
