Information has emerged online about the detention of the acting head of the East Kazakhstan Region ecology department, Mamai Butabayev.
According to sources from Ulysmedia.kz, the region's chief ecologist was caught red-handed while receiving a bribe.
It is reported that Butabayev was detained by Anti-Corruption officers while receiving a bribe of 10 million.
For context, in December 2023, it was reported that the head of the East Kazakhstan Region ecology department, Daniyar Aliyev, was detained. After his detention, Mamai Butabayev became the acting head of the department.
In November of the same year, it was reported that the Anti-Corruption service was conducting a pre-trial investigation into the deputy head of the East Kazakhstan Region ecology department, Rauan Turarov.
