In the Otyrar district of the Turkestan region, the company responsible for midge control, Sattu Tulik LLP, has been fined 1.4 million tenge.
According to the Kazinform news agency, a mass spread of midges has been recorded in the region, primarily affecting residents of settlements along the Syr Darya River. Despite ongoing treatments, the results remain unsatisfactory.
According to the deputy akim of the Turkestan region, Zulpukhar Zholdasov, Sattu Tulik LLP has been working under contract for three years, but this season the contractor has not delivered the expected results.
"The district and regional akimats have formed a special group. They monitor the contractor's work daily. According to scientists, the amount of the preparation has been tripled, along with the costs. Last year, the treatment area covered six sites; this year it has increased to eleven. <…> If there are no results, we will not pay and will refer the matter to law enforcement agencies," said the deputy akim.
He also noted that the coastal areas of the Syr Darya River are currently undergoing biological medicinal treatment.
Zholdasov reported that to improve effectiveness, specialists from the Pavlodar region (https://t.me/fund_anticorr/6522), where midge control is also underway, are to be brought in. This is expected to involve an exchange of experience, changes to the composition of the preparations used, and an expansion of the technical base, including the use of aircraft for spraying agents.
"If there is a shortage of transport for treating the streets, we will increase it. We will spray using aircraft. We will also change the composition of the medicine. It must not harm people, nature, or animals," said the deputy akim of the region.
The akimat of the Otyrar district noted that the contractor, Sattu Tulik LLP, has been held administratively liable. The fine amounted to 1.4 million tenge.
It will be recalled that in August last year, the Department of Energy and Housing and Communal Services of the Turkestan Region reported that comprehensive studies were conducted in 2023 aimed at reducing the number of blood-sucking insects in the region.
At that time, the bacterial biological product 'Bacticid' was tested on a model watercourse approximately 5 km long. It was noted that as a result, about 90% of larvae of early and middle stages died.
In the field of environmental safety, the FBRK annually analyses insect control methods across the country, investigates the issue of pesticide use during disinsection in urban environments, and calls on authorities to switch to safe biological methods of insect control.
This year, we intend to continue monitoring the preparations used for treating green spaces in the regions.
