School No. 34 named after Bauyrzhan Momyshuly in the village of Voskhod in the city of Semey started the new academic year in a dangerous condition.
According to the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», water is dripping from the ceilings in the corridors, the floors are flooding, and staff are placing buckets, but this does not solve the problem.
“Our children are studying in a dangerous school. They will start getting sick because of the dampness. God forbid, if they fall – they will break something!” one mother complained.
As reported by the city akimat, the school roof requires major repairs. The design and estimate documentation was ready back in September 2024 and received a positive expert opinion. The education department submitted a budget request for 2025, but the money has not yet been allocated.
Leaks are being recorded in three classrooms, a corridor and the gym. Pupils from the flooded rooms have had to move to the second shift.
The press service of the akim of the Abai region reported that for now only local sealing work is being carried out, and a full renovation of the school is included in the renewal programme only for 2026. Thus, children are forced to continue their studies in a dangerous building for at least another year.
It is worth recalling that earlier, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov ordered the completion of repairs in the country's schools by 1 September. He noted the slow pace of work in 34 schools in Almaty, the Abai and Ulytau regions, and the West Kazakhstan, Almaty, Kyzylorda, Atyrau, Aktobe and East Kazakhstan regions.
In turn, Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev stated that in Kazakhstan more than 1,000 schools require major repairs.
