The criminal case of the former Minister of Justice Marat Beketayev has been sent to court.
As reported by MIA «Kazinform», this was announced at a briefing by the official representative of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Daniyar Bigaidarov.
“The Agency has completed the pre-trial investigation against former Minister of Justice M.B. Beketayev and other individuals regarding fraud, embezzlement on an especially large scale, and illegal participation in entrepreneurial activity”, the statement reads.
Bigaidarov noted that the criminal case was sent to court on 3 March.
It will be recalled that Marat Beketayev was detained in October 2023. He and the heads of a certain private company are suspected of embezzling budget funds on an especially large scale, fraud, and illegal participation in entrepreneurial activity. The damage exceeded 1 billion tenge.
The former Minister of Justice and the consulting group «Bolashak» coordinated Kazakhstan’s legal disputes with the Moldovan oligarchs Gabriel and Anatol Stati.
It was noted that over the years, the Ministry of Justice spent between 22% and 48% of its budget on litigation against the Statis. The FBRK editorial team monitored the progress and published the outcomes of the courts in this high-profile case.
Incidentally, the Prosecutor General’s Office previously reported that the arrest of the former Minister of Justice had been extended until 10 March.
