The Stepnogorsk city court has granted the request of the brother of Kuandyk BishimbayevBakhytzhan Baizhanov to reduce his sentence.

According to Zakon.kz, the court ruled to apply to him the amnesty declared in connection with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.

Baizhanov's sentence was reduced by a third – approximately by eight months and eight days. He now has around a year and four and a half months left to serve in custody.

This decision was made based on positive character references for the prisoner and commendations from the institution's administration.

Recall, in November 2023, the wife of Kuandyk Bishimbayev, Saltanat Nukenova, died from bodily injuries sustained in a restaurant in the capital.

Later, Bishimbayev was arrested on suspicion of murder and detained for two months. His brother, Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, the director of the 'Gastro-Centre' where the murder took place, was also taken into custody. He was charged with harbouring a criminal.

Ultimately, the court found Bishimbayev guilty and sentenced him to 24 years in prison. Baizhanov was given a sentence of 4 years in prison in a medium-security correctional facility.
