A video is circulating online showing a resident of the village of Akan Kurmanov, Atbasar District, in the Akmola Region, making her way along a flooded street to her home, which has already been inundated with water.

According to the Kazinform news agency, the incident was commented on by the press service of the district akimat.

"As a result of a sharp influx of a large volume of water, a rise in the level of the Yesil River was recorded, followed by the flooding of adjacent territories along the riverbed. As a result of the overspill on the outskirts of the village, along Altynsarin Street, the household plots of the village of Akan Kurmanov were flooded," the department reported.

The akimat reported that four houses were flooded, three of which are occupied by two households each. In total, seven apartments were inundated.

"Nevertheless, during the flood period, preventive measures were taken to prevent the flooding of residential buildings. Work was carried out to place sandbags around residential houses, and additional embankments were built on the streets," the department added.

Water pumping operations are currently underway in the village. Two units of equipment and two motor pumps are being used. Personnel from military unit 52859 in Karaganda, the Emergency Situations Department of Atbasar District, and the Emergency Situations Department of Akmola Region are present at the scene.
