In Almaty, the unfinished Orion business centre, which the nephew of former president Nazarbayev - Kairat Satybaldy - handed over to the state, has been sold at auction.
According to Kursiv.media, the auction took place on 24 October, with the starting price of the business centre, which has a total area of 21,500 m², set at 6.2 billion tenge. It also came with a land plot of 0.6315 hectares.
It has emerged that the unfinished six-storey building includes a two-storey car park and four floors. Construction work on the foundations, walls, floors and stairwells has been 100% completed.
The number of bidders and the final price at which this property was sold have not been disclosed.
For context, in September 2022, Court No. 2 of the Baikonur district of Astana sentenced Kairat Satybaldy to 6 years in prison. Previously, we wrote in detail that the first president's nephew is being charged in several cases, all related to investigations in the oil and gas sector.
In 2023, Satybaldy filed a petition for parole, but the court in the East Kazakhstan Region rejected it.
This year, it was reported that the total value of assets returned to the state under the criminal cases against Kairat Satybaldy amounts to 732.8 billion tenge.
In August, Court No. 2 of Ust-Kamenogorsk granted the petition of Satybaldy and replaced the unserved portion of his prison sentence with a restriction of liberty for a term of 3 years, 3 months and 7 days.
In addition, probation supervision has been established for Satybaldy. In the absence of permanent employment, he may be assigned forced labour for 100 hours annually for the entire duration of his sentence.
