In the Akmola region, a verdict was announced for the heads of the construction department of the Akimat of Atbasar district, Prestige Stroy 7 LLP and Fundamental LLP. They were found guilty of embezzling over 300 million tenge.
According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, these funds were allocated from the government reserve in 2021 for the construction of two houses to relocate 200 families from the Atbasar district who lived in the flood zone.
It is noted that the case was investigated by special prosecutors of the Akmola region.
Under the court verdict, the participants in the embezzlement were convicted under Article 189, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Embezzlement on an especially large scale") and Article 218 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Legalisation of property obtained by criminal means"). They were sentenced to 8.6 and 7.6 years in prison respectively. In addition, the convicts' property was confiscated. The court verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
Earlier, the Atbasar District Court of the Akmola region found the Akim of Sergeyevsky rural district, Kairat Kozhakhmetov, guilty of negligence, which, according to the investigation, led to the flooding of 19 houses in the village of Samarka during the spring flood of 2024.
The convicted Akim, for his part, denies his guilt. In a video message published on his social media page, he stated that he had been made the "scapegoat" in the situation.
