The former head of one of the district offices of the Shymkent City Police Department (PD), Batyr Myrzageldiev, has been found guilty by the court of accepting a bribe in the amount of 15 million tenge. He has been sentenced to 6 years in prison.
WHAT THE COURT ESTABLISHED
According to the Telegram channel “HALYQSTAN”, the court found Batyr Myrzageldiev guilty of accepting a bribe of 15 million tenge. According to the case materials, the money was handed over to halt a criminal investigation.
At the time of the former official’s detention at the end of 2025, the sum in question was 20 million tenge.
THE SENTENCE HANDED DOWN BY THE COURT
The court sentenced Batyr Myrzageldiev to 6 years in prison. He was also stripped of his special rank of colonel and banned from holding positions in the civil service for life.
The court also sentenced the intermediary involved in handing over the bribe, A. Bekmuratov, to 3.5 years in prison.
At the time of publication, the sentence has not yet entered into force.
CONTEXT AND SIGNIFICANCE
It is noted that Batyr Myrzageldiev became the second former head of a district police department convicted in 2026. In February, the former head of the Turansky District Police Department, Nurzhan Tileuov, was sentenced to 6 years in prison. His case involved a bribe of 6 million tenge.
