A video of the detention of a group of young people in the car park of a supermarket in Karaganda has been circulated on social media. Later, the police department of the Karaganda region reported that law enforcement officers arrived at the scene following a report of a possible conflict and took 16 people to a police station to establish the circumstances.
WHAT HAPPENED
A video, filmed by a witness from a car, has been circulating on social media. The footage shows several people being held on the ground by special forces officers on the car park next to a white minivan. A police patrol car with its flashing lights on is also at the scene, along with police officers who have cordoned off the area.
The posts reported that the detention took place in the car park of a well-known supermarket in Karaganda.
WHAT THE POLICE SAID
According to the police department of the Karaganda region, on 22 July, the police received a report that a group of young people had gathered near a supermarket in the city, and a conflict may have arisen between them.
Police officers immediately arrived at the scene and stopped the unlawful actions, preventing the situation from escalating. To establish all the circumstances, 16 people were taken to the local police station.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
The police department of the Karaganda region reported that an investigation is currently underway. An appropriate procedural decision will be made based on its results.
The police also emphasised that any attempts to disturb public order are under particular scrutiny, and law enforcement agencies continue to respond promptly to such reports to ensure the safety of citizens.
