A member of an organised criminal group producing drugs has been extradited from Russia to Kazakhstan

A member of an organised crime group (OCG), which the investigation links to the illegal production and distribution of psychoactive substances in Kazakhstan, has been extradited from Russia. He is charged with offences that carry a penalty of up to 20 years' imprisonment.

HOW THE CASE DEVELOPED

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the suspect is a citizen of Kazakhstan and a member of a group which, according to the investigation, organised the production of psychoactive substances on an especially large scale in Temirtau. The substances produced were then distributed across the Karaganda Region.

According to the investigation, members of the group legalised the proceeds through various financial transactions, including through the use of crypto exchanges. The sum amounted to more than 1.8 billion tenge.

WHAT ASSETS WERE SEIZED

According to the prosecutor's office, members of the group acquired real estate, business premises and vehicles with a total value of more than 600 million tenge. These assets were seized for conversion into state revenue.

In addition, almost 10 kg of mephedrone was seized from members of the group.

HOW THE SUSPECT WAS BROUGHT TO KAZAKHSTAN

In October 2025, the man was detained on the territory of Russia. At the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, he was extradited to Kazakhstan, after which he was placed in a pre-trial detention centre.

A criminal case against certain members of the group is already being heard in court. Other accomplices, including the wanted suspect, fled from the criminal prosecution authorities and were placed on the international wanted list.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE PUNISHMENT

The offences with which the suspect is charged carry a penalty of up to 20 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property.

In July 2026, another active member of the same group was extradited to Kazakhstan from Georgia.
