The government has allocated 10.4 billion tenge from its reserve fund to create a new space communications system, KazSat-3R. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. The new satellite is intended to replace the existing KazSat-3, whose operational lifespan ends in 2029.

WHAT THE FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR

10.4 billion tenge from the government reserve will be allocated to the project to create the KazSat-3R space communications system. The decree on the allocation of funds was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.

The new satellite is being created as a replacement for the existing KazSat-3, whose planned operational lifespan ends in 2029. This is necessary to ensure the continuous operation of the national satellite communications system after the current satellite is decommissioned.

WHAT SERVICES THE KAZSAT SYSTEM PROVIDES

Currently, the KazSat system is used to provide television and radio broadcasting, data transmission, mobile communications, and internet access services.

The resources of the national satellite system are used by 19 communications operators, who serve more than 2 million television broadcast subscribers. Government agencies also use the system.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NEW SATELLITE

The project implementation should ensure the stable operation of satellite communications and television/radio broadcasting networks.

Furthermore, the government noted that the creation of KazSat-3R will expand internet access in sparsely populated and remote settlements, as well as increase the level of information security and strengthen Kazakhstan's technological sovereignty.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE PROJECT'S FINANCING

Previously, the Republican Space Communications Centre announced a tender for the creation of KazSat-3R. It is noted that more than half of the project's cost was planned to be financed from the operator's own funds, with the remaining portion coming from the budget.
