The liquidation of a forest fire continues in the state forest nature reserve «Semey Ormany» in the Abai Region. As of the morning of 17 July, no open flames are observed, and specialists are continuing to extinguish individual smouldering pockets.
WHAT RESOURCES ARE INVOLVED
According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, as of 08:00, 769 people, 191 units of ground equipment, and 8 helicopters have been deployed to extinguish the fire.
The department reports that the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Yerlan Nysanbayev, and the Akim of the Abai Region, Berik Uali, conducted an aerial survey of the fire zone. During the flight, continuous monitoring of the situation and oversight of the elimination of individual smouldering pockets were carried out.
HOW THE WORK IS CONTINUING
Overnight, specialists worked to extinguish the fire along its entire perimeter, conducting patrols and dousing the fire's edge to prevent further spread.
After daylight, a ground team was deployed on foot to hard-to-reach areas inside the fire pocket. Simultaneously, a massive use of aviation has been organised, carrying out water drops on internal burning pockets.
According to information from the department, no open flames are currently observed. Efforts are focused on eliminating individual smouldering pockets.
HOW MUCH WATER HAS AVIATION DROPPED
Since the start of firefighting operations, aviation has carried out 243 water drops. A total of 546 tonnes of water has been delivered to the fire site.
CONTEXT
Earlier, it became known that a forest fire had started on the territory of the state forest nature reserve «Semey Ormany» in the Borodulikha district of the Abai Region. Resources from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), the forestry service, the police, and aviation from several departments were involved in extinguishing it, and 190 children and 20 staff were evacuated from the nearby children's camp «DosbolLike». Work on the complete elimination of the fire continues.
