HOW THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED

According to the Police Department of the East Kazakhstan Region (DP EKR), the accident occurred on 19 August at around 8:10 pm at the intersection of Nazarbayev and Vinogradov streets, near the Metallurg shopping centre.

The cyclist was then taken to hospital.

According to the police, the teenager was held accountable under Part 2 of Article 615 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation of traffic rules by pedestrians and other road users").

CONTEXT

Earlier, journalist Dinara Yegеubayeva published a CCTV recording which, she claims, shows the moment of an accident involving a cyclist in Almaty. The publication was prompted by reports in certain public channels and media outlets claiming that she had allegedly knocked down and killed a person.
