The National Security Committee (KNB) has reported the uncovering of a large-scale scheme involving the fictitious production of medical devices in Kazakhstan.

PERSONS INVOLVED IN THE CASE

The following have been taken into custody by court order:

  • the technical director of OrdaMed JSC,
  • the former chairman of the board,
  • the head of production management.

Stakes in the companies Interdentica, Erkin Brand and OrdaMed have also been seized. During searches of the company's management, investment coins worth over 1 billion tenge were confiscated.

NATURE OF THE SCHEME

According to the investigation, the management of OrdaMed forged documents claiming domestic production and obtained preferential treatment for subsidised supplies of 28 types of medical equipment to state healthcare institutions. In reality, the equipment was imported from abroad in its finished form.

AMOUNT OF DAMAGE

Preliminary data indicates that the state has suffered losses amounting to 4.5 billion tenge.

PROGRESS OF THE INVESTIGATION

A pre-trial investigation is ongoing. No further information is being disclosed in the interests of the investigation.

Earlier, the KNB also reported the detention of the head of the State Revenue Department (SRD) of the West Kazakhstan Region in connection with the case of illegal imports of goods.

It may be recalled that in November 2024, representatives of the pharmaceutical regulator reported identified violations in the activities of OrdaMed related to the lack of a licence for the production of certain types of medical devices, as a result of which the company's registration certificate was suspended for six months.
