Former akim of the East Kazakhstan region, president of the athletics federation Danial Akhmetov is in Paris, where the Olympic Games are taking place.
According to Ulysmedia.kz, Akhmetov is supporting Kazakh athletes. A photograph of him was published on the federation's page.
“The president of the federation held a meeting with the athletics team to support the athletes and coaches. The president emphasised the importance of each member of the team and stressed that the federation is ready to do everything possible to provide the conditions necessary for preparation and performance in the future”, the statement said.
It is noted that Kazakh athletes have not yet won any medals at the Olympics. However, runner Nora Jeruto has advanced to the final, where she will compete for gold.
Danial Akhmetov became president of the federation in 2018. It is reported that he has not appeared on the political scene since leaving the post of akim of the East Kazakhstan region.
In June last year, the President signed a decree relieving Danial Akhmetov of his post as akim of the East Kazakhstan region. He had headed the region since November 2014.
Recall that in May a man who looked very similar to former East Kazakhstan region akim Danial Akhmetov was seen in Semey.
