Staff of the special inspection have identified violations in the provision of services by mobile operators in Shymkent. The city has found 45 zones with unsatisfactory quality of communication and internet.
According to 24.kz, the head of Shymkent's digitalisation department, Mukhit Kemelov, reported that three mobile operators have been fined a total of 44 million tenge. At the same time, he noted that a year earlier the number of problem zones was three times higher.
"We have a specific body — the interregional communications inspection, which oversees the quality of communications. This body has fined three mobile operators 44 million tenge, specifically in Shymkent itself," said Kemelov.
The problem is particularly acute in the Kazyghurt neighbourhood. According to local resident Suleimen Kamarov, network outages cause serious inconvenience.
"Adults get frustrated, and children, as you know, want to throw their phones away. If we pay 100%, then they should provide the service. Even making a call is difficult; now you go into some houses and shops, and there's no signal," said Kamarov.
Shopkeeper Meirzhan Berdiakhmet said that communication problems also make paying for purchases difficult.
"Customers who come to me often have trouble paying via the app. The reason is that the network works poorly. The same thing happens with QR codes and transfers. Because of this, some customers have to go outside to pay," the report says.
According to the digitalisation department, public radio-phobia is among the factors affecting the resolution of these problems. The department stated that it is conducting outreach work with residents. Meanwhile, authorities plan to ensure full city coverage and the introduction of a 5G network by 2027.
It will be recalled that in January it was reported that the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry (MCDIAI) conducted 782 inspections of mobile operators in 2023 and issued fines totalling 3 billion 288 million tenge.
